Ranked in the top 30 Courses in Continental Europe, The Atlantic Course designed by the famed Robert Trent Jones jr, is escapist golf at its best.
With its bold drives, courageous approaches and artful greens, it is both an adrenalin rush and a soothing journey through one of Portugal's most inspiring landscapes. The opening holes and the final flourish share a wooded vale in the shadow of the rocky mountains, while others arc and plunge over scented hillsides. Exciting at every turn, this championship test and host to the Portuguese Open, is a master of variety and thrills.
The Monastery Course is a nine-hole, par 35 course of 2,588 meters. This course spreads around the historical heart of the resort and is the perfect complement to The Atlantic Course, ideal for guests who arrive in the late afternoon but who would still like to play a round of golf.
Tips given by professional players and based on white tees:
1
No particular difficulty on this par 3 hole, just to warm up and experience the quality of the greens.
2
Try to stay short of the slope at the dog leg with your tee shot. The hole then climb towards the green, think your next shot.
3
Quite straightforward par 4. The elevated green is well protected by 3 bunkers.
4
An elevated tee will allow you to see all of the traps of this par 3. Lake on the left, bunker to the right. (Water Hazard)
5
The lake on the right handside will surely receive your ball, if you slice. Bunkers to the left of the green. (Water Hazard)
6
Second par 5 of the course, slight dogleg to the left.
7
Keep your tee shot to the left of the wide fairway. Elevated green well protected by bunkers.
8
Small but enchanting par 3 on the side of 'Lagoa Verde' (Green Lake), black swans, ducks and geese will observe your shot. But don't forget the water. (Water Hazard)
9
Take a minute to observe the historical part from this tee, you will also be able to see the Atlantic course. Keep your tee shot to the right, but beware of the bunker. The green is also well protected.
